Growing up you never realize how important your way of thinking is. Everyone always assumed you get to where you are by being lucky, but I always believe that there was a perspective or a belief that the people I admired must have had in order to reach their dreams. It was then that I started to search for more peace and a positive outlook. I always prayed and often went to church with my mother and that helped to keep me in positive spirits, but I thought there was more personal work I could do. I started practicing yoga! First Birkram, then Kundalini, but mostly I like Vinyasa . I spoke about yoga not too long ago on my snapchat. For me, yoga as well as meditation, allows me to get in contact with my true self. The space between my thoughts, it makes me a more balanced person.

Wherever you are from I’m sure you can find out where there would be some classes, but there are also DVDs and things you can get to work from home!

Aside from yoga and knowledge on chakras, I believe knowledge on meditation is so important. I was raised Catholic, still go to church and still pray. However, I also practice yoga and transcendence meditation. I say that to say that one does not stop you from doing the other. There is this fear often where people feel they can only do ONE thing and that is just untrue. There are so many ways to love the Lord and to access his love for you! You can try them all because they are all doing the same thing, it’s just what works for you!

Anyhow, I tried many different styles of meditation when I first started. When you think of meditation a lot of people think it’s tied to a specific religion but it doesn’t have to be. That would be like saying in order to pray at home you have to be apart of a western religion lol.

I tried Dharma yoga/meditation for a while but a lot of the meditation styles did feel like a religion in structure and I wanted something that was more so about me and my connection with the man upstairs as opposed to all these rituals I had to do lololol.

Now don’t get me wrong, that works with some people, that just isn’t MY style. The style of meditation that worked best for me was transcendence, I was taught by a man named Light Watkins. The base of transcendence meditation is pretty much to have a mantra (a phrase you repeat during meditation that usually has spiritual meaning. Sometimes it can just be a word that you like.) The way it works is, you can sit anywhere and do this (that’s the part I love because I work so much) you don’t have to be there long just about 20 mins. You close your eyes and you breathe in and out slowly, relaxing yourself allowing your thoughts to run past you. The point is, instead of trying to STOP your thoughts, let them do their thing. When you notice this, just repeat your mantra to yourself! I know it’s probably kind of weird to hear when you have never tried it, but it’s really simply. The point of this is when you do get to that quiet place, where you are separate from your thoughts, it’s like all the negativity in your body is getting cleaned out! It’s like sleeping but works better Ha! It is kind of difficult to conceptualize at first, but if you really PRACTICE (hence why it’s called a practice haha) you really will notice a difference in your demeanor. It helped me so much with my anxiety and allowed me to be less reactionary to life! It reminds me that everything isn’t an emergency πŸ™‚
